idle issues/ wont run

well i finished my headers today and hooked everything back up except the knock sensor... b/c the plug in broke and i had to get a new one so i ordered it from oriellys today and it wont be in till tomaro. but i dont think that would cause the car to keep dying like it is. its not idleing right either. how can i set the idle on this car ive never done it b4. it is an 88 305 TPI. i took it down to street today and it keep shuting of if i didnt have my foot on the gas a little. do you think this would be a vaccum problem. idk what to do i cant work on it anymore tonight b/c it is too loud with the open headers to be cranking it up. i already pissed off the neighbors today.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me, did you remove any of the intake components? I would not set the idle if it was Idling before the header swap. Go back a double check everything you removed in the process

well i came home today from school in hopes to finish it all up and get it running right.... and i go to crank it and there is no spark... i take the cap off the distributor b/c the coil wasnt getting a spark and cranked it again. the inside was spinning like it was supposed to but under the piece that the rotor attaches too was a couple pieces of broke metal.. anyone know if i can fix this piece or do i have to buy a whole new dizzy. i dont even know what the piece is so any info would help me out.

welp we pulled the distributor and it was junk it was cracked in a couple different places and the top was all rusted and corroded. we got a new one though and cant seem to line it up w/ the line we marked when we took the old one out. we tried it anyway and it popped back through pretty bad.

Turn the oil pump drive shaft with a large screwdriver to align with the drive pin on the end of the distributor shaft.
