AC Delco's paper air filters may not flow as huge, but they work far better!

I'll personally never use a K&N, they let way too much dirt through to achieve their flow rates. However, I live out in the country, and go down dirt roads a fair bit. Probally be alright with primiarily city driving.

I have heard that K&N filters and other cotton gauze filters do pass a fair amount of dust, I guess that is why on off road applications you normally use an outerwear or pre-filter sock of some type. However on the street I really doubt you will draw enough dirt to wear an engine out. Those are just my opinions though.
