If you have the Borg 9-bolt axle, the ratio is actually 2.77:1.
Forget about an airfoil or larger MAF for the 305.
Exhaust system modifications really never hurt, but won't make a big difference without better basic airflow. The engine runs out of breath at 4,500 RPM, when a larger exhaust would really make a difference.
The biggest restriction on this engine is the cam. Higher ratio rockers make almost no difference.
Better valve springs also help, since valve float is one of the things that kills power at or about 4,500 RPM.
Reprogramming is always worthwhile, but don't bother with any "cookie-cutter" PROMs such as HyperTech.
If you use any ethanol blended fuel, don't lower the thermostat to anything below 180°F, and don't bother bypassing the coolant line at the throttle body.
The intake air filter "garbage can", ductwork, and resonator box can be restrictive. That may be worth looking into.
