Bypassing the MAF...Can it be done??

I searched for two days to see if there was any history on this, but all I couldn't find anything solid. No one really answered whether or not it could be done.

I have a 89 Formula 350TPI. As you know, it has the MAF between the air filter box and the throttle body.

Here's what I'm trying to do. I want to put a K&N RC-5000 filter straight out of the throttle body. Is it possible? I've seen pics of this setup on this forum, but don't know if any of them were originally MAF setups or if they are all SD's.

If it can be done, what is the process? I'm sure it's not just an unplug it and go process....(although that would be nice)

Appreciate the help fellas, and I appologize if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find it.

You would have to convert. Your computer is looking for that MAF. No way around it and have a good running car.

Many people just remove the MAF and not do a real MAP conversion even though it looks like they did. Without the maf, the engine will still run good but not great and the adal light will be on.

Many people?!? Please. The few that do that are idiots and almost always figure out they are being idiotic within the first few days... likely around the first time they have to fill up.

To hang the filter off the TB you need to either convert to SD or go with an aftermarket FI set-up.

Thanks for the replies gents. I know the SLP cold air intake would be better/ "look cooler", but I didn't want to drop $250 on it right now. As soon as I get back to the Mainland, I plan on dropping the 700r4 and 350TPI for an LS1 and T56 .

Just saw that setup on a few cars, knew the filter only cost $38 bucks, so I thought it could have been cool. Oh well, I'll be back in Texas in about 10 months, then the real work begins on this baby. Thanks again.
