The painless harness comes with a "detachable" engine light. It's just a light. You could unplug the light from the painless setup and wire the 2 wires to ANY light, including your factory light. Just grab the wires from your factory light and tap them into the painless harness where the light comes apart. I have not done it that way, but I have changed the painless harness to a different light. It's easy.

yeah thats what i figuered but. . . the dash is wired through printed circuit and you just cant cut and splice the painless guaged wire into the circuit tape.

The light is enabled from the ECM, so... the wire is in the IP harness. That would be the clear plastic ~17pin connector over by the ECM. I dont remember what wire is for the light, but thats where you would hook up to it. Painless did not provide that connector and probably still doesnt, but the wiring is still on the IP harness to hook up to.

Yeah this is true but. . . . there is a lamp driver that operates on the ecm signal. Once you D.C. the old harness the lamp driver is out of the circuit. how is the lamp controlled in the painless set up?
thx
