code 33 WTF? I have no MAP sensor???
car runs great for 3 days after I removed a head to replace a damaged valve...the all of a sudden, I'm driving down the road and car starts running like **** and the SES light comes on. I pull over to get the code and it's "33"
which according to my records is a faulty MAP sensor.
FUNNY...I have an '87 IROC...NO MAP!!!!???
Any ideas?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Troy

First throw away your cheap Autozone code book and get a factory manual :-)
Work from there.
I dont have it near me as of this moment, but I believe its a MAF related failure to the burnoff relay. (or that might be 34)
Do some searching here.

Cool, thanks for the codes link.
I was refering to my Chiltons manual. It lists a "33" as a MAP problem...go figure.
The link you provided, I assume also translates to a 350 TPI...it should I would think. I believe vin F is the 305TPI, right?
anyway, It says MAF got a bad reading.
does this mean it's toast?
I'm gonna check the TPS here in a little while with a dgital volt meter.
Anyone know if and how I can check the MAF and/or the burn off relay with a voltmeter?
Thanks.

ok, checked the TPS voltage..it's .568 closed and 4.17 @ wot.
that should be well within proper adjustment, Right.
so I unplugged the MAF to inspect it. Everything looks ok (no broken wire, anyway).
Then I cleared the codes and fired it up.
The friggin car is running great again...?
When the MAF code first appeared, it cam about one minute after a healthy WOT launch.
Do you think maybe the TPS might be to blame even though the base and WOT readings are fine?
It's hard to see if there are any linear "spikes" or "drop-offs" with a digital vom. So there may be a problem there.
Any more ideas?
Thanks,
Troy
