quick and painless timing question

alright, i just wanted to get this straight.... i have a 1989 firebird formula 350 TPI...... how exactly are you supposed to set the timing on this car? the chilton manual says to ground the A and B terminals before setting the timing. if i do NOT ground these terminals, the timing changes as the rpm's of the car changes. am i supposed to disconnect the EST wire to set the timing?? i tried it, and i got a check engine light, and the engine sounded like it was running rough, but i reved the engine and the timing light stayed steady at whatever it was set at. please let me know the CORRECT way to do this, thanks!

Pull the EST wire and set the timing :-)

Painless enough?

Reset the ecm(disconnect power) after u set the timing cause u will set the EST code.

later
