Speed Limiter on 92 LB9
I'm just wondering where the speed limiter would be on a 92 LB9. Its got 2.73gears, the 235 tires, and a 110mph speedo. I mean all clues point to the 112-118 MPH limiter, but i think thats such bull on a TPI engine. I mean i knew they did that on all TBI engines, but to limit a TPI engine to that little is BS.
Anyone have some insight??

Real simple. The vehicle speed was limited to what the factory ordered tires would withstand. If Z rated tires where ordered with that vehicle, there was no speed limiter. If standard tires came on the vehicle (not the optional rubber) then it was speed limited. Seems reasonable to me.

^^^^What he said. My '91 T/A came with badass 215/60r16 tires and the venerable 2.73 drum rear. My speed limiter is 110mph. Totally sucks.
But what I want to know is where can I get a chip that doesn't change anything except the speed limiter. I asked a store and they said they only sell what's on the shelf, but don't know more than that. Basically I would be playing russian roullete with buying a stock chip replacement. I don't even know if the M5 cars were speed limited.

I can't reprogram a stock memcal since I don't have an adaptor to read the stock chip in the stock holder or a UV Eraser (I use EEProms which are Electronicslly erasable in the programmer), but there are people that do have the adaptors and modified UV erasers to reprogram the stock chip while in the memcal case.

Yea i mean basically when i had my heritage RS with the 305TBI i knew that thing might have only topped out at 120-125 so the whole 118 speed limiter thing wasnt really a big deal, but with a 305 TPI car ive heard they can sometimes hit 130-145, so a 118 speed limiter doesnt make much sense. I cant believe they would even offer the 235/55 tires with a z28.
Anyway, not that it really matters because i'd never go that fast anyway, but its more like one wants to have the potential to go that fast if something possessed them to.
