What next for the LB9?

I am going to be making a purchase or 2 within the next 2 weeks of at least 2 mods. I am looking for some more power outta the LB9 before I dive into my LS1 Trans Am.
So...heres what I am thinking about getting
1. TPIS 52mm TB
2. ASM Runners and Accel high flow base
3. 3.42 gears
4. Cold air system from SLP
5. Accel Super Ram system
6. throw a chip in just for kicks even I though I know that mail order chips are a good running joke.

I just lost to my buddies 2000 SS(its an automatic btw) by .2 this past friday night and I need some thing. I just ordered Drag Radials for her so that should help out a bunch. I am screwed no matter what since he just bought a LS6 manifold and HP tuners but oh well gotta get close again. Any ideas?

What did it run in the 1/4? what was your trap speed? 60ft time? What gears does the car currently have? There are quite a few guys on here going quick on 305s with stock intake components, and I can tell you for a fact that a throttle body is a waste of your time, especially on a 305. This also rules out the super ram. Your next step should be to port and port match your stock plenum, runners, and base, and either bolt on a set of aluminum L98 heads or port your stock iron heads.

We don't have a real track here anymore. Desert demons is the name of our "track". Our real track, Thunder Ally, shut its doors 1 1/2 years ago. We don't even get a print out. All I got was my times and his. 14.86 me and 14.62him. Our elevation is higher too...we are about .8-.9 off here. My speedometer only goes to 85mph so that sucks too. I already have a set of 305 heads that are ported but I rather have some TFS or world heads.

TFS doesnt make a 58cc head for a 305 as far as I know. World products makes the S/R Torquer but I dont think they are much better than ported stockers. I still think the AL L98 heads are the best bang for the buck. I got mine assembled with roller rockers for $600.

I was in your boat before I got a stroker (lucky deal). I had purchased the following for my LB9 project:

Edelbrock base and runners
SLP 1-5/8 headers
1.6 roller rockers
custom exhaust
SLP air induction
Pro 5.0 shifter

The rest was suspension stuff. Your LB9 does not have 3.42s already?

Trickflow DOES make a set of 175cc aluminum heads for small bore chevy motors. 56cc chambers, 1.94 intake/1.5 exhaust. theyre kinda pricey, though, starting at 1k per set... more if you need springs for high lift cams

aftermarket runners/baseplate are a waste on a 305, especially since the stock intake combo flows more air than your stock heads do. i would port & gasket match the base/runners/plenum combo and do something with your heads - either port them as well or get an aftermarket set

it looks like he has an 85' car, which would not have those gears in place. 3.27s at best. i know everyone says that higher gears are overkill for TPI, but i believe this just isnt true. ive read that you want to be approx 10% over your power peak when you cross the traps to produce the best E/T and mph (BTW this would happen in 3rd gear for an auto car, or 4th if you have a stick). i have 3.42s and i cross the traps at about 4300rpm. assuming your car has a stock powerband, that would mean you want to be at 4800rpms or so when finishing. if you have stock size tires (approx 25" tall), a 3.73 gearset would put you there

Yeah I was looking a TFS heads the TFS-30300002 with the 1.47 springs. No I don't have 3.42's 3.27's I believe are in place. I actually rather do the gear set anyway with a crap chip just to do it. I love my little 305...I know I have an LS1 too(getting my MAC mid lengths and GMMG soon)but I rather mod this thing with all honesty.
3.73's hmmm...I have heard that it is overkill on a stock TPI setup. My converter helped a ton! I loved it so much I wanna kiss the TCI staff personally!

Just get gears and a higher stall converter, around 2200 to 2500. That's what my next mod for my Lb9 is. 3.42s are awesome. Wish they came stock with the autos.
