check engine light - no speedo

my speedo is going bad - sometimes it works - sometimes not & jumps others. now i am getting a check engine light with no codes - are they related?

Transmission: 700r4

Check your vss its a sensor that is in the trany, also if this is bad or unplugged (yes its possible happend to me) the cruise control will not work.
