quick question regarding fuel pressure "jump"

Hello everyone,
I have an 86' z with a 350 tpi setup.I installed a fuel pressure guage on the rail a month ago ,and when my car started bogging out and backfiring thru the throttle body last week I hit the throttle while under the hood and the guage reading almost jumps to 60! ,engine bogs down then as the pressure drops it "kicks in" I am also noticing a ticking or pulsating from the fuel pressure regulator.I am wondering if I have aproblem with the pulsation damper in the tank or the fpr???? The pressure at idle with vacum connected is 50.I have read that the injectors will "Lock" if there is two much pressure.I am looking for some direction as I am thinking of dropping the tank ,installing a walbro pump and eliminating the pulsation damper.Any advise is much appreciated.

P.S. are their any upstate N.Y. third gen events??????

A fuel pressure rise of 20% when pilot vacuum is removed from the FPR is not abnormal. Normal pressure of 37 PSIG and a 7 PSIG increase to 44 pounds is customary - That's still a 20% rise.

Since you are running much higher than stock fuel pressure, the inejctor solenoid coils may have some trouble opening the pintles at the higher pressure.
