I just bought a 88 Camaro. The previous owner says its a RS. The thing is ive done some looking on the web and I think they didnt make a RS that year. I havent picked it up yet so I havent really looked it over very well [badges ect.] If any one can help that would be great!

 

Im pretty sure there were RS models produced in 88. Not that many were made, but their out there.

 

They were limited availability, and 6,616 of them were sold only in Cali, Florida, and Texas. They all came with 2.8 V6 engines. V8's werent available until 89.

 

Thanks, odd though, because it has the 305 TPI. From what I know theres never been an engine swap. Im picking it wednesday,i can really look it over then. I didnt see any RS badges on it. I guess it could be a 89 or somthing. Im going to look into it. thanks for the help.

 

The only RS that came with TPI was the B4C (police package) car, but I think those were only available in 91 and 92. The B4C was basically a Z28 with the RS hood and spoiler, and of course, the RS emblems too.

 

A 305 tpi was never an option in the RS. It probably is a repainted or debadged IROC or Z28. Look for an F in the 8th letter spot on the vin. This denotes a 305 TPI engine originally came in the car. If You dont see an F, then its probably not the original engine.

RS came out in 87 with V6 only in California then was offered to the rest of the US in 88. The info is on the tech data base. Camaro Technical Database

Its defintly not a RS. Guess its an IROC, missing badges though. checked the vin, ya its all good. Thanks for all the help
