85 TPI Trans Am innacurate Overheating reading failure

Hi everybody:

after riding in my 85 TPI TA for a while the engine temp is reading almost 260 :s but when you take the real temp of the engine with a laser gun temp. it will read that its working okay

also the temp of the water is okay because its NOT Boiling , and watter is flowing good in the engine.

The mechanic told me that it might be a bad reading from the gauge

keep in mind that my car is using an inacurate MAF sensor (i just ordered the correct MAF sensor) but my mechanic thinks that the MAF has nothing to do with this overheat reading from the gauge

also there is a choke light iluminated in the gauges that is caused because the MAF is not reading properly (my mechanic put an scanner to read any failure from the computer)

Any ideas? i am lost here

I would just get a new aftermarket oil pressure/temp gauge if you know the factory one is faulty.

I wouldn't trust a laser gun. Put a scanner on the ECM and check it before you go spending money.
