Port them or have it done. You may want to do something to increase your retainer-guide clearance as well in case you change cams or rockers in the future and end up with more lift.

Dont need EGR there? You might also want to check that the RH head has enough holes for your accessory brackets. I know for the serpentine it doesnt, had to add a hole. What are you doing for rockers? Self aligning or guideplates? If they're the early heads with guideplates, throw those away as they arent hardened... or dont use hardened pushrods with them.

I used stock pushrods with the stock soft guide plates and non aligning rockers and it still wore the heck out of the guide plates. I put in hardened pushrods and guide plates and fixed it. I also just gasket matched and polished mine, no major porting was done. I am also running the stock valve springs too. I have no emission checks in my area so I just gasket matched them did a valve job and bolted them on. I also have the old accessory drive like you do as well so I had enough holes. They basically bolted on for me and should for you too. only 2 show stoppers for you should be cam lift and emmisions compliance.

Since I retro-fitted the 86 block w/a roller cam had to replace pushrods and went with hardened ones. And I was going to go with a bigger cam while I did the heads.

Emailed Comp Cams for a suggestion on which cam for my mods and they suggested part#12-466-8 specs are 218-224/570/565/113 with 1.6 rockers.A friend suggested I'd be better off with 1.52 rockers with that cam.Another friend suggested part # 12-423-8,specs are 224-230/502/510/110 with 1.52 rockers.Which cam does everyone think?
