Fuel Pump Recommendation
Fuel Pump Recommendation
Hello,
My in-tank stock fuel pump died in my 5.7, TPI, MAF 87 GTA. I've already removed the tank and since the job is a PITA one which I don't care to repeat, I think it's a good idea to install something better then OEM. Can any of you Trans-Am guru's offer any suggestions what would be a good quality/performance fuel pump?
BTW: I replaced my stock injectors with #24 and installed an adjustable fuel regulator and gauge.
Thanks in advance,

Go to http://www.racetronix.com/ and get the TPI / L98 Camaro / Firebird / GTA High Performance Fuel Pump Kit with Plug n' Play Harness. Its well worth the money. Comes with Walbro pump GSS307M or GSS340M.

Pump Selection
Hay guys,
Thanks for all the recommendations, seems that everyone perfers the Walbro pump. I was searching on Summit's website and was concidering either the Holley HLY-12-914 for $159 or the BBK with sells for $129. They both push 255 liters per hour.
I looked at the Walbro GSS307M which sells for $159 on racetronix. They don't say much about the pump itself, they say the performance comes from their cable harness with delivers power to the pump directly from the alternator. The idea is they use larger gauge wire to reduce voltage drop which in turn keeps the pump running at higher speeds.
Their kit includes the pump, strainer, o-ring, cables, connectors, relay and fuse. If you consider the cost of the electrical parts, do you think their pump is of equal or better quality compaired to the Holley or BBK?
If so, then do you think the Holley is over priced as it sells for the same price?
Would I notice a performance difference if I purchased the Walbro compaired to the other choices? I'm also very concerned about how long of a life the pump will last as I don't care to drop my fuel tank again.

Yes buy the one with hot wire kit.
Personally I have never had it be an issue on my cars, but older ones or abused ones very well could use it and/or if your in doubt

Fuel Pump
Hi Jeremy,
One of your past post you said don't buy from people who repackage Walbro's. Are you saying that BBK and Holley are actually Walbro pumps?
If that's the case, then I will be ordering the Walbro with the hot wire kit.
I'll probably go ahead and wire in a hidden kill switch for additional security.
Thanks for your help,
Vance

Thunder Racing is a distributor for Racetronix and they're having a 10% off Thanksgiving sale as well. I bought my hotwire kit from them during their last 10% off sale and only paid $75 shipped. Check out APEUSA, they've got good prices on Walbro pumps. I got my pump from them for just under $90 shipped.

Be wary of who u buy Walbro pumps from.
Only buy them from legitimate vendors like Racetronix and Full Throttle.
There have been a lot of fake ones that are inferior products being made and sold as walbro's
Word to the wise.
Forgot about that sooner in the post
A true Walbro will have Walbro or there W on it, I think the fakes dont
later

I think I remember reading on turbobuick.com the real ones have the 'W' stamped on there, while the made in China versions are laser etched.
But yes, buy from a well known vendor and you'll be ok. And I'd probably avoid the ebay ones just in case.
EDIT: I guess they're not really laser etched but they do engrave the logos on them. I found the rest of the post I mentioned.--->http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/gen...t=walbro+china
