What Mods Should I Do to my Car??

I am already starting to plan what I'm going to do to my Z during the summer, but i am looking for some suggestions. Nothing too extreme, too expensive, or too gaudy. I want to do a few tasteful, quality, and reversible (in case I ever want to bring the car back to 100% stock to show it) mods.

I think the first thing that i want to do is add a catback, because i think that besides the small performance i would gain, I would get the most enjoyment out of a catback because i would absolutely adore the sound. I am thinking of going either w/ a 4th gen magnaflow catback and having the hangers adjusted to fit my car, getting the magnaflow muffler and just using the indivudally sold dynomax I-pipe pieces on summit, the banks exhaust, or maybe hooker again.

Besides a catback, what else would you guys suggest that meet my 'requirements'. Also keep in mind that i will be tinting my windows this summer as well (Which will probably take about $180-$200 out of my pocket).

Basically, anything to open up the stock manifold would be a plus, and you wouldnt be getting too intense. Specifically, runners and a nice port job to the plenum. There are countless threads on the specifics of just this, so I suggest you search. Other than that the catback is a great idea. Have you thought about headers? K&N filters are a good idea too, and maybe a throttle body coolant bypass, that one is essentially free, and is good for 5hp.

I'm sure theres a ton of topics on things to make TPI's faster, but i'm looking for some stuff is that easily reversible because at any given time i want to be able to covert my car back to stock (given that its worth much more in stock trim--29k miles z28 heritage).

ALL MAINTENANCE ISSUES FIRST

Leaking seals, weeping intake gasket, inspect pickup coil in the distributor. Along with a general tuneup and cleaning.

Flow test and clean injectors, etc.

Eliminate any and all issues whether they be mechanical or electrical in nature.

For my first modification I would learn how to tune it using all the great info on the DIY PROM board here.

This is speaking from experience and an honest assesment.

The car is pretty much in tip top shape now (i mean it only has 29k miles). Right when i bought the car i had a ton of problems that were related to the fact that it sat for like 5 years (thus the extremely low mileage). But a ton of money and ACDelco parts later, its back up to 1992 standards. It has brand new tires, radiator, fuel pump, wires, hoses, etc.

The absolute first thing that is happening when i take it out in the spring is a hypertech fan switch and 180* t-stat because i dont feel comfortable when it gets really hot in traffic. When putting the thermostat in, my dad is just gonna clean out the throttle body as well.

I was looking and it doesnt seem that there are no CAI systems that will work w/ the stock 1992 camaro tpi setup.....what should i do as far as intake, that doesnt require gutting or anything of the stock airbox??

What about gears? I mean you got 2.73's. Nobody will be able to tell from the outside of the car(at a show) that you put better gears in her. -Nick.

If the car is in really good condition, near mint, I would do a Swap to 3.42 gears, put in an FPR, increase timing, do a catback, and TB bypass <----which can easily be put back if need be. But the gear swap from 2.73 to 3.42 will be nice. I used to have 2.73s and they sucked, I could chirp the tires from a stand still, but with 3.42s they will spin and spin w/o any restrictions.

Wouldn't i also need to get a different posi carrier though?? or do i just need 3.42's that are meant for the posi i have?? Can someone show me a quality set of gears that would work w/ my car?

I dont see how you couldnt reverse the process of what i suggested. If you are talking about the porting and siamesing of the plenum, noone would ever know you did that unless they took the intake apart and looked inside. The real flaw with this system is it's running out of breath before 5000rpm. If you can shift the powerband to above 5000 youll notice a world of difference, and this can be acheived with runners and a port job.
