Narrowing Down Cam Choice
I have a '87 305 TPI in a '78 Camaro. Stock block and heads. Self ported stock plenum and runners. 700R4, 3.90:1 rear, stock torque convertor. Hypertec Stage II chip, MAF, O2 sensor in Hooker headers, no cats.
All I wanna do is cam it. Not swapping in cubes, not changing torque convertor; just camming it.
Down to two choices:
262HR-12 08-300-8 .450/.480 206/210@.050 112LSA
264HR-12 08-302-12 .480/.480 210/220@.050 112LSA
I'd rather not have to reprogram it to tune it.
Which one is the ONE?

If you're not going to burn your own chips, I'd get the smaller cam. It's just a hair bigger than the L98 cam that was in some 305's depending on the year and tranny. If you burned your own chips or had someone burn them for you, I'd get the bigger cam. Just MHO...

the thing is , with cam swaps there are other supporting mods that have to be doen to make it optimal . For example , if you went with a BIG cam . You would need to up the C/R , and get a different stall, etc. Also tuneing needs to be addressed . But like said above if you don't wanna do that , get the smaller cam . Seeing how you have a MAF . It should be pretty forgiveing
