IAC Valve

I have a 1986 Trans AM 305 V8 Automatic 5.0 Fuel Injected TPI

I just installed a new Throttle body with original TPS and New IAC. Also new gaskets. I can feel a decent vacuum in the hose underneath the TB.

My Trans AM doesn't get driven much since its still in project mode.

Always takes 1-2 tries for it to stay on.

with the new parts it stayed on in the second try it spikes to 1500 rpm then drops and stays at around 1000 rpm at idle. sounds ok but is this a normal idle?

Also would the IAC be workng properly after being installed and plugged in the first time? The car has been turned on and off while intalling and then driven.

It drove actually better then with the old parts. No surprise.

Is there anything right off the bat you see I did wrong or anything you tihnk I should look into as to why it takes a few tries to stay on?

Any ideas or tips would be appreciated thanks

If you didn't follow any instructions then you'll need to set the minimum air rate so that the ECM has a idle baseline to reference. There's a tech article on here to do that, but be sure you disable the ECM spark control after you disconnect the IAC, I think disconnecting the IAC is step 3 in the instructions.
I don't trust the stock tach, using a precision Tach is a must, or read from the ALDL data coming from the ECM.

See the quick disconnect in between the 2 wire looms?
That's the Set Timing Connector, disconnect it when setting the base timing, or the minimum air rate.
