TPI wiring harness question
TPI wiring harness question
I got the complete TPI system, under hood to computer wiring harness, the computer to convert mine over to TPI. I currently have crappy computer controlled quadrajet factory set up. What I need to know is if I remove the quad and under hood to computer harness and install the TPI unit, harness and computer, will the harness under the dash for the power and engine light etc. connect to the TPI computer? I really didn't want to have to change the dash harness. Plus I need to get rid of the remainder of the parts car and I didn't want to if I needed anything else from it.
I forgot to mention that my current car is an 86 IROC Z 305 with a 5 speed and the parts car was an 86 IROC Z 305 with 700R4 automatic. Both cars had cable operated speedo.

What year/model TPI harness do you have? The earlier Camaro harnesses do not have a VSS connection for the transmission, but expect a VSS signal from the speedometer in the dash. Either way, you'll have some work to do with that or program out the VSS.
That VSS circuit routes through the C207 connector (15 position). You may also have a fuel pump power circuit in the C207 connector, as well as an input from the brake switch and another for the park/neutral switch, and a power feed from the 3A CRANK fuse in the main fuse panel. The ALDL connectoe wire and IGN/GAUGE power for all the engine sensors also routes though that connector.
The C221 connector (6 position) should also be hanging in the interior, with circuits for injector power to each bank and power for the fan relay coil.
It would be best to verify all the connections there just to be sure.

The fuel pump, injector power, cold start power, and electric fan circuits shoudl still be verified. The VSS should take care of itself.
If you're staying with the 5-speed, the PARK/NEUTRAL and brake switch inputs obviously won't be an issue.

Yes I'm staying with the 5 speed. I got the tank and pump from the donor car but I may go with an inline pump due to the fact the one I got may or not be any good because it set up for a while. Plus it's a PAIN to drop the tank and replace the pump if it turns out to be bad and I wouldn't know until I got it installed and hooked up. I was also told that there may be a slight problem with the engine dying or almost dying when backing out of the throttle while driving but it could be corrected with a new PROM chip. I'm just learning about fuel injection so any info will help. Probably be a summer project rebuilding the engine and doing the conversion.
