Why an AFPR?
Hey everyone.
Im looking into the BBK AFPR, as my engine is completely apart for a new cam.
What is the advantage to the AFPR, other then a higher fuel pressure?
What can i accomplish with a higher fuel pressure?
Is it worth the $100cad (with shipping, conversion, duties etc) for one of the items?
I will be using either stock injectors, or LT1 injectors, so if you can, list advantages etc with either injector.
Thanks for the help!
Sheldon

Basically it was a way of tunning in the old days, if you can do your own chips then really you don't need one. To get full use out of it you really need to bring a car to a track or slap it on a dyno.

You are buying go-fast-parts for what reason - to get more air into and out of the engine, more air, more power. So, if you got more air, you need more fuel. An AFPR is an easy way to get the extra fuel w/o changing injectors or the ECM chip.

Don't use the BBK afpr.
The BBK uses a crappy small bolt and it strips on top of the "can".
Spend a couple more $ and get a Holley
The Holley version uses a bigger "dial" about the size of a twoonie(or a silver dollar for you USA people) to do the adjustments.
I was too cheap, and made my own afpr and used a toonie for the dial.

nice home made afpr. I bought a used intake and it came with a fuel rail installed with an afpr which doesn't look to appealing to me. Its got a bolt on the top and a hole drilled into the side of the housing? I'm not sure yet if its going to leak, or what.. perhaps thats the way its supposed to be?
is it easy to make your own afpr, or did you just modify your BBK one after it stripped?

In the tech section on the home page of TGO, there is an article on home-made afpr. I just used the toonie instead of a bolt.

Yup, better fuel atomization (which performs better) but not enough to where you need to change ecm programing, it compensates... you could fine tune it if you wanted, but don't have to...
Anyone use the TPIS one or know if it's another company's repackaged?

Like I always say, I don't know if this is the norm, but I added 2 degrees of timing and bumped the FP up to 49 psi and had no increase in MPH at the track. Then I bumped the timing to 10, and also had the same result, no increase in MPH. I'm actually going to try lowering the FP this year and retard the timing to back to 8 and see what happens this year at the track.
