The two (hp and tq) both have significant meaning, IMO. Then of course as stated above choose the right gearing for what you're running.
Thanks for the compliment Grim, likewise they should read your posts too as there is a bunch of good information you've shared as well (and I've learned from).

Ugh....the old tq vs hp debate. They are just 2 different ways of measuring the same thing. Horsepower = Torque X RPM/5252 end of story. Horsepower is simply a measurement of torque over time. When most people refer to "low end torque" they are really referring to low end horsepower. If an engine makes a ton of tq, say a peak of 530 lb/ft at only 4000rpms, then it is going to make a LOT of power at those lower rpms as well. Let us compare 2 engines:
Engine A: 350 CID, 400rwhp @ 6000rpms 375rwtq @ 4500rpms
Engine B: 383 CID, 400rwhp @ 5200rpms, 410rwtq @ 3500rpms
Obviously both engines make the same peak horsepower, but since engine B has more peak torque and would then make more torque throught it's powerband, then it'll make more AVERAGE horsepower. With the optimal set of gears on each I'll bet the 1/4 mile times would likely be within a few tenths. Gears are important since they keep the engine in the desired RPM range. Engine A would be better off with 3.73/3.90/4.10s and Engine B would make do with some 3.42s.

The word is "percentage" NOT "percentile".
Anyway, if you live in BC, forget about building that engine. The new "green" legislation that is coming out will make any modified engine a thing of the past. Worst, after 2009 you will only be able to buy certain cars in BC. I hope you like the Prius.

I've read about that "green" legislation. I think you are getting a bit carried away there. There will be tax exemptions on hybrids and stuff. But no talk of a california c.a.r.b. like system. We can still buy any car we choose.

I'm sorry I even mentioned the HP, TQ debate
. Like iIve said before, if someone builds this motor lets hear your track experience and if possible Rear Wheel numbers. TGO Supporter

He is very knowledgable about the system and would be someone some of the newer members should seek info from. I just wanted to make sure people were aware that they knew that Madmax was worth listening to when he is discussing TPI.
