Might be finally making the conversion.. *please help*

Ok, I may possibly be able to trade off my carb/intake/distributor for a complete TPI setup.

Now, I have a few questions.

Fuel pump, should I run an in-line or do I need to get one that goes into the gas tank?

Connecting the fuel lines at the runners, there is a return line and stuff right? Every detail you guys know I need to know.

Connecting my gas pedal to the throttle body, will I need longer cables? What about my kick-down cable?

Where is the best place to mount the computer, and where should I get my power source from?

I am a complete n00b to this, and I would really appreciate everyones help. The deal isn't for sure yet, but I hope that it will be, I really want TPI.

Any hints you guys found in your conversions, please do tell, and spare no details.. I need to know all of it so I get it right.

Edit: Another big thing to know, how will my cam affect the TPI? I don't know any specs as it was in the car when I bought it, but it is after market. I would guess it's maybe just an RV cam or something, but I am not completely sure. I would just need to make sure the timing is set at like 12 right?

Hey bro! i did something kinda similar to this. i swapped out my tbi for a tpi. if you go to www.hotrodlane.cc they have everything you could possibly need and then some for the swap you are talking about. they have the wiring harnesses, computers, proms, connectors, throttle cables, everything! the people there are really knowledgeable too!

basically here's what you will need...

*tpi set up from a speed density car
*harness
*computer from a port fuel injected car
*custom prom burned
*throtle and detent cable for a tpi camaro
*knock sensor
*electronic speed sensor
*in tank fuel pump
*if you can grab them the rubber fuel lines the go from the hard fuel lines (the ones that come from your tank to the engine compartment) to the fuel rail for the injectors (trust me this piece will save you a TON of heart ache!! if you have the factory hard lines on your car the old ones should simply unscrew and the new ones should screw right in and then screw right into the fuel rails this connection was on the frame rail almost directly below the brake booster you can't miss it)
*MAP Sensor
*O2 Sensor

i'm not positive but if you are an 83 i think you have th old style HEI distributer with the coil on the top of the cap and i think you will have to change to the new style HEI cap and distributer and coil, and probably a coolant sensor. if you can get the complete TPI setup the sensors on the throttle body and injectors can be reused as long as they are in good condition. i think that's everything i can think of that you could possibly need for this swap.

edit: the place i mentioned above will have EVERYTHING you need to do this swap! they also have a tech dept incase you have problems. even though you are a noob it's pretty straight forward and you should be able to handle it. you will also need to know the lift, duration, and lobe separation for your cam so they can make a prom for your car. this is very important so it runs right.
