Tell me if this will work.

Hey guys I have been researching for the past three weeks looking on TGO and looking for the perfect set-up. I will be getting a remanufactured engine from Jasper and it is the same exact motor that is in my '89 GTA and it is a 350 without the intake and tpi system. So I thought up these performance modification.

1.6 Roller Rockers
Flat Top Pistons w/4-Reliefs that should give 9.72 CR
AFR 195cc Eliminator Heads w/ 65CC
XFI Comp Cams w/ Adv. Dur. 280/288, Lift .576/.570, 2K-6K RPM Range
F.I.R.S.T Intake, Plenum, TB, and Runners
Underdrive Pulley System
Hedman Shorty Headers
26 lbs. Injectors
AFPR

What do you guys think about this, and how much torque/hp should I get? Do you think anything should be changed or modified. And do you have any other items that should be added. Thanks guys, you all have been a huge help in the past.

i think this cam would keep hp up and torque good down low >http://store.summitracing.com/partde...8&autoview=sku <

long tube headers would be better suited for it also. (like the hooker super comps)

i'd say you need at least a 30# fuel injector. but other than that it looks like it should fly.

good luck,
Mike

I don't really have a manifold to match the FIRST on DYNOSim but with a TPI flowing 800cfm you get 377 hp and 438 tq. Bumping it up to 1000 cfm showed 5 more HP and 2 tq. That should be fairly close as long as the runner length for the FIRST intake is the same as a standard TPI. Since you are getting a new shortblock remember; "There is no replacement for displacement!"

Thanks 3rdgenZ and 89Night hawk. I think that would be a better cam for it, that you suggested.Do you guys think I should get this instead of 350 http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...1058_-1_395224
Its a 383 with flat top pistons and I wouldn't have to install new pistons or bore anything out. Tell me what do you think(350 vs. 383). Plus, what do you think I would have to do to make this thing work. I would definately have to get a different cam. What would I have to modify or change.

well the 383 will give you more, but with less RPM. if it was my choce id go with the 383. keep everthing the same but go with some 36# injectors.

That is a two piece rear main seal and the dipstick is on the wrong side. But, yes, go with a 383 if you can afford it. 30# injectors will be fine. Our engines are batch fire not sequential so they can get by with smaller injectors for the same HP as a SFI engine.

Would the cam work with this engine? Also, would the sensors to my engine hook up to this engine? What would work and would not and what modifing would I have to do for all of my computer controlled components to work with the 383? It is actually about $300 cheaper to buy the shortblock assembly, than the Jasper remanufactured. But, it doesn't come w/ heads cam, etc, but I was going to change it anyways. Sorry for all the questions, but I am just trying to get all the info., before I jump into something; and then can't dig myself out of that hole. THANKS

I don't know what head gasket you are going to use but look into the GM .028" head gasket. Hopefully that will be thinner than what you are using and you can raise your compression somewhat. Maybe mill the heads .012 to get the compression up.

Thanks '89 GTA for that suggestion! I found these flat top pistons that would supposedly give me 10.2:1. Also, they are really cheap. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...44636_-1_25902

Do you think this would be better suited? Also, I have decided to ditch the 383, because I would like to see what I can do with my 350. Sorry about bringing up the 383 idea, because I have looked on this site and there are a lot of 383 threads.

Here are some pistons I think are better matched for your build. You have good quality parts so far. I would bore the block .030" with a torque plate.

So, if I bore my block .030 over then that will give me a 355, right? Thanks, for the suggestion on the pistons, and I believe those will be better suited as well. I think it might be cheaper if I get a whole new rotating assemblie from Eagle and I think it would be better balenced that way. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...rm=356-B13005L

Our engines are a 1- piece rear seal, right? What I will then do is send the block to my local machine shop and have them bore it .030 over and stick this rotating assemblie in. Also, what length pushrods and what lifters do you recommend?

Guess what happened today guys, my engine started knocking real bad and backfiring once or twice. So, the GTA will be sitting for awile, while I drive my 1500 Chevrolet truck. It sounds like a bearing is going out or a rod. Also, do you guys know anyplace that you sells a 1989 350 block or short block assembly? Any help would be appreciated.
