What Roller Rockers to get?
I'm interested in upgrading to roller rockers in my virtually stock L98. (see mods in my signature)
What size, brand, and model should I get? I heard 1.6 is great. Any other options?
What supplier should I order the part from?
Are there any cons to this upgrade?
(Yes, I have searched)
Thanks!
Bill

Summit makes narrow body 1.6 roller rockers to fit the center bolt heads. They look just like Crane rockers except they're blue. Decent price too.
These are the least expensive narrow body full rollers I know of at $159 and shipping.

On a stock engine with stock cam,,, you would see very little if any difference in power over the heat-treated long slots at $65

With roller rockers, You get what you pay for.
On my 383, I have Comp Cam pro-magnums. $260. I have 1.5's because my cam is kinda....Big. On a stock cam 1.6s will be alright.

Yes they are. They're available in self aligning or non self aligning.

Dave, you went from 1.5 to 1.6, with a stock cam, and you could tell a difference?????? what kind of difference???? Better throttle response?????? More power?????? Thanks alot, Tom
Right. On a TPI car with relatively small hydraulic cam that won't see much if any over 5500 rpm, I promise you'll see very little if any power increase over the 1.6 long slot compared to the 1.6 full roller rockers. I have a set of the 1.6 long slot stamped rockers on my IROC. There's a nice brand new set of 1.6 roller rockers left over from my old speed shop and I would have used those myself it wasn't a waste on a .490 lift cam. You start getting over .500 lift and shifting around 6500,,, the full rollers will free up enough power and the needed extra strength (less flex) can warrent the price difference.
1.5 vs 1.6 on your stock cam and heads might be .1 difference in the quarter mile (about a car length). Some may say they picked up more with the swap,,, but typically they'll do the old hot-rodder's 1/4 turn preload with the swap instead of going back to the full one turn recommended by GM - both the 1.6 rocker and 1/4 turn preload together could be close to if not over .2 seconds. I've set stock cam's lifters to 1/4 turn and the cars typically picked up over .1 seconds and added 200 rpm to the shift point on the old carbed L69s (305 HOs).

Re: What Roller Rockers to get?
I agree, you get what you pay for with roller rockers.
Also dont buy aluminum rockers, they may be cheaper and lighter but they dont last as long as steel ones.
