Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

I need the GM part number for a 1990-1992 EGR solenoid for a 5.7 TPI engine. Can't find one of these anywhere. Not at any of the local parts houses. Figured I would try GMpartsdirect. If anyone knows this Part number, please let me know.

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

Hello Bro new here. I have a 1985 C10 with a 1989 IROC TPI 350 here in Cali. We have strick smog laws, I did this engine swap in 1994 smog legal CA BAR approved. Smog now just like the IROC, but this time it failed. It had a good run 15 years always passing. Bad EGR solenoid. I have been looking for the same part for a week. Went all over town here in Bakersfield today. The part is not available here anyware. I have tried them all Kragen, Autozone, NAPA, Pep Boys and the stealer-dealers. Part has year span 1987 to 1992 Camaros and Birds. Discontinued or not available. Even tried to get one for a 1987-92 Corvette no luck. The last stop was Car Quest Parts at the warehouse, they didn't have it either. The did have some answers. They called Headquarters to get some answers. Their R&D department explained that there was alot of EGR solenoids that were failing that were new replacements. Ok, but how come all of a sudden nobody has one? The R&D department also told that the EGR solenoid is in development and would be available mid june 2009. Now I at the mercy of the state to give a 2 year exception on the smog to get tags (sticker). This keeps getting better and better. I will keep you posted if I can find a solenoid and I would hope you do the same.
E-mails welcome. Poppy new member

Wow, way to bring this thread back from the dead! I remember having a tough time finding one too. Eventually, I found one on ebay. There is a guy who sells them there. Just do a search for "Camaro EGR Solenoid". Good luck! I'd love to see pics of your setup!

A parts guy at the stealer found one in AZ. He said it would cost me. I said ok the AZ dealer doubled the price with shipping it is going to cost $123.35 . I think I got off easy. By the way I did not destroy an IROC for the engine and trans that would be sacriliage. It had the misfortune of a multi-car accident in Los Angeles the 110 FWY. What pics would you like to see? Ask any questions on the set up I will answer.

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

I am currently looking for one and they are nowhere to be found. Found some parts place in NY that happens to have and original GM part and the crook wants $180 for the damn thing. These things have to be interchangable in some way accross platforms. We are just looking for a solenoid with the same plug as the TPI one has. Has anyone used one from another car that is still available???

Hey Bro you may be at the mercy of this guy if you want OEM. I looked at them all view previous posts. I was at the point of using one from a throttle body fuel injection 5.0 or 5.7 chevy truck, even a furd egr solenoid would work. The state of CA and the BAR said the would not allow it whatever it does the same job, but I lucked out and found the part. The solenoid works by 12+ Ing on the positive side of the solenoid and computer groung on the negative side. If you would like I can ask my GM parts guy if he can find one more or give you his name and phone number.

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

Sorry about the wait. His name is Jeff at the parts dept. Richland Cheverolet, Shafter , CA (661)746-4981 or (661)399-5133. The
P/N 1997171. The other crossover number are VS19 Standard, EGR216 BWD Automotive and F39002 Neihoff. Remember push come to shove you can use one from a throttle bodt FI unit. It may use a different plug and or mounting bracket but will perform the same. Good luck let me know what happens. Merry Christmas Z Poppy

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

Hey guys, the soleniod's are discontinued. We had a long discussion about this in the thread titled EGR temp sensor discontinued.

This one from a corvette or Lt1 camaro will be the closest you can get to it and will work just fine. Also some caddy applications will work. (see the post)

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...9&dept_id=1246

The vac ports are in the right place, has the same plug for 90 to 92 cars. Just the bracket is a little different. That looks to be the closest one I have seen.

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

For the guys from Cali, if you need to go to a state referee, like the engine swap into an S-10 mentioned previously, you will need the stock or oem replacement set up. If you are going to just have a normal smog test done, the tech usually won't know or care what the egr looks like as long as it is installed and works. If you do run across the occasional tech who gets really **** about every part number on every smog part on your car, go find another smog station for you smog test.

Would 214-339 be compatible for 1991 5.7L? (it is listed for 1991-92 5.0 Camaro)

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

DO NOT ORDER FROM ADVANCE AUTO PARTS... idiots who I tried to educate. They still sent me the wrong part.(EGR232)- which has the wrong female for plug. Then when I called them and told them, THEY made the mistake(I wanted EGR216), they still made me pay return shipping!!! Never using these people ever... Customer service their sucks!!!!

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

Just posted this on the "EGR Temp Sensor Discontinued" thread...........
OK, guys... so here's what I'm trying... I just found the EGR Temp Sensor 14087416 at GMPartsGiant.com($12+shipping) and I got EGR Vacuum Solenoid #EGR232 from Advanced AutoParts.com(the worst customer service EVER)... Now, my IROC has the "weatherpack" connector but #EGR232 has the "metripack" plug... SO, I went to TPIparts.net and ordered #WIR-380 "EGR Solenoid Connector". The plan is to splice in the connector(obviously)... I'll let everybody know how it goes...

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

I found another good place to order elecrical connectors from.

http://www.eficonnection.com/eficonnection/SearchByEngineType.aspx

They have a minimum $25 order. I ordered several connectors last week. They came in fast, and were correct as pictured

Mouser.com seems to be the most reasonable place for delphi packard electronics connectors.

Re: Part number for Speed Density EGR Solenoid?

Here's my EGR solenoid and plug replacement pics. I did bend the bracket on the new solenoid to fit by using a vise. The plug came from tpiparts.net, the solenoid can be found at any Kragen/O'rielly.

PM me with any questions. I know how frustrating this can be.
