Trouble Separating the IAC Housing From Throttlebody...

Well, here we go. I bought a 52mm throttlebody off an Ebay vendor. The part looks great, I just have to swap my original IAC housing onto it. However, I CANNOT separate my 20-year old throttlebody to get that damn piece off. I snapped 4 of the 7 screws (stupid coolant passages corroded them I think) holding the IAC housing on and the gasket is completely solid. Any suggestions for getting that housing off???

There should be a gasket between the 2 parts, if its an original style one its pretty thick. You should be able to cut through most of that with a knife, and then pry the thing off. IIRC there's one sport with a dowel pin of sorts and thats likely where its really jammed together (aside of the busted screws), but I cant recall the location right now. A pic of the parts in pieces would be helpful to see where thats at, might try searching for one.

I broke one screw many years ago, and learned the hard way the a little heat, a LOT of penetrating oil, and even more patience working the screws back and forth about a quarter-turn at a time is the only way to get them out cleanly. This recent one was swimming in penetrating oil for about a day:

The locating pin is about 2/3 of the way between the first and second screws from the left in the photo, along what would be the rear of the coolant passage. The pin is almost dead center of the RH throttle bore (left side in the photo).

What Vader said.
I had to soak one of mine for a couple of days before it would come loose. No broken screws.

Re: Trouble Separating the IAC Housing From Throttlebody...

Thanks for the tips guys! Once I get the IAC/coolant passage off, I will try heating the screws to get the rest of them out. Three came out clean; the other four broke just below the head of the screw, so there is plenty of it still left in the TB housing. Is there anything besides a knife that will get through that OEM gasket faster? And the locating pin is part of the housing, not the TB, correct?

Thanks in advance!
