Gas going bad? Car won't fire!

My car has been parked for 4 months now, well more like 3 3/4's, until I could fix it. We pulled the tranny and welded the belhousing and replaced the flexplate.

When we go to start it, the very first time it tried to fire for a very split second and now it does nothing but crank. It turns over great, even reaching almost 40psi oil pressure. It's like it has no fuel and spark? If I hold down the throttle while cranking it very slightly changes the tone while the engine is cranking and we can't smell gas like it's flooded.

I added sta-bil after about 3 months and added some isopropyl the day we fixed it to take care of any moisture that may have gotten in. The gas cap was doing it's job as a ton of air hissed out both times for adding the sta-bil and a couple weeks later for the alcohol.

Does gas just go bad that fast?! I'm going to try some starting fluid in the TB to see if that will make it fire. Any thoughts? If it fires with the starting fluid I was gonna unhook the line from the rail and pump it all out using the fuel pump and then fill it with gas cans.

Re: Gas going bad? Car won't fire!

I did a search and it looks like I'm going to try and find some of this "DrayGas" additive I've seen people post about along with about a 5gallon jug of 91 octane and maybe some octane boost like outlaw. The car has between half and 3/4's of a tank.

I've never heard of it before, do CarQuest or Autozone carry the stuff? how about Kragen or PepBoys?

Thanks!

I've stored my car before for 4 months and it started fine without any additives. However, I would suspect bad gas first.

Exactly. I've stored my car as well for longer time and it was fine.

However I had started using AM/PM gas due to $$$ right before it broke and it was outside at about a 5,000ft altitude parked in a dirt backyard getting snowed and iced on under 2 non-weather resistant car covers for 4 months.

I'm going to try the starting fluid and if it starts then atleast I know for sure it's either the gas or the fuel pump. I doubt it's the pump because I could hear it prime the first time I turned the key. I have my pressure guage in storage though so I can't check the pressure at the rail to rule it out 100%
