ECM jumper wire with engine on or off???

I keep reading the IAC adjustment steps and most say keep the diagnostic terminasl A and B grounded with a jumper wire with the ignition on.

tehn after all is said and done after turning on the engine and doing the min. air adjustment. it says turn off the car and remove the jumper wire or other way around.

I'm afriad this will ruin my ECM and I want a few people on here to tell me yes do not start engine with the terminals A and B connected or no its ok to have the engine running with the jumper wire in there to do the adjustment.

Please just someone tell me straight out yes or no if its ok and why.

Thanks

NO..do not start the car with the jumper wire in the ports, this can damage the ECM

Re: ECM jumper wire with engine on or off???

great finally thank you!!!!

now any idea why with the IAC and the timing wire near the passenger firewall disconnected why the car will instantly shut off after turning the engine on and starting it up?

theres these tech articles and i dont know how they dont ruin their cars or accomplish what they wright about because i follow the steps and cant get their results.

jump the A B turn key to on (do not start) wait about a min. for the ICA pintel to pull back, then unplug the ICA itself, turn off the key, pull the jumper and start the car, and set the min. idel air, after that put back together and then set your base timing. (might have to set min. air a fue times)

I set my base timing first (mine was ideling hight) then I set everything else (ICA,TPS, fuel pres.) then rechecked the base timing again.
YES, timing light one #1 plug wire with bypass wire disconected motor runing, it gets set at 6*BTDC.
