Help help Maf Problem
Help help Maf Problem
I have a 86 Z-28 305 TPI The last month or so it has been liting the check lite. The scanner says code 33 maf high. I replaced the maf sensor with no change. The problem has now gotten worst. When I clear the code the engine idles fine but when I try to rev it up in park the engine surges it's way up to rpm. If I dis-connect the maf The idle is bad but I can rev it up with no surge. I have visually checked the connectors and the harness I can't see anything. When I have my scanner on it while running reading the values, From what I understand the maf flow and the air flow should read the same. It does when I have the maf plugged in so that means the ecu is seeing the info I think? But is the ecu is not using that info? I don't want to just throw parts ( $$ ) at this thing. I'm an old points and condenser guy and this thing is causing me to pull what little hair I have left out. Thanks

Hi Corvair, a few things you can do. Check your MAF connections to the throttle body . tighten all hose clamps..a slight leak can throw the code..if thats good check your MAF power relay on the drivers side fire wall. That will throw the code if it is bad, had that happen to me way back also you MAF burn-off relay close to it could be bad...try changing them..they are relatively cheap ...try the MAF power relay first.

Re: Help help Maf Problem
I was sick when my motor would not idle and showed the code 33
I found that it was the terminal that connects to the MAFS
using a paperclip I bent the little tabs that hold preasure on the terminals
BAM baby no more code no more idle problems
give it a go whats the worst that can happen
also put a dab of dielectic grease on that bad boy
