A/C bypass with v-belts, Question:
My air conditioning compressor has gone bad and is making loud grinding noises (people have told me its the bearing/clutch) Well, my A/C doesn't work anyway. I have V-belts in my 87 Trans Am. It is pretty much its own belt, but a bit of it does grip on to the power steering. And the power steering also has its own belt. I tried removing just the compressor belt and when I started the car, I just that loud squeeking/belt grinding noise from the power steering pump, as if it was locked or would not spin it or something. All the AC Delete brackets I've seen are for serpentine belts. Do I need an AC delete braket, or do I just need to tighten up the bolts on the power steering?

Just tighten up the power steering belt. That should take care of it unless you have a problem with the pump. There is a smaller bracket on non a/c cars that bolts to the steering pump and exhaust manifold but its not really needed it just cleans things up a little.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I'm also going to go ahead and get a shorter belt that will fit the ridges of the a/c comp. So the pwr steering pump will run with 2 belts...
