vortec base vs. edelbrock base questions [see my pics]

hello

Originally i was goin to just port my l98 heads, so i bought a edelbrock 3860 base. Recently i decided to go with a vortec tpi setup so i got a scoggin dickeys base.
Besides the fact that vortec heads have vertical 4 bolt intakes and tpi's have angle 6 bolt intakes, the bases are very similar. The round intake ports are the same on both.

However it is a little different at the ports that go into the heads. [see pics]. On the vortec base the injector port protrudes into the intake port a great deal more than the inset edelbrock injector ports do.
WHY would they do this? is it so the injector can inject fuel more directly into the heads? Another question i have is would that cost a little power?restriction?

i will be porting the vortec base, should i grind these down?

just somethin that i found interesting

Don't grind the injector boss. Just port match arround them. If you must touch the injector boss, then just polish the cast flash off of them.

just smooth them out, don't forget the Vortec heads have a taller runner then the L98s which is probably the method behind their madness. To maintain the stock location of the injectors and the rails they'd probably have to inset them deeper.

Assemble it with injectors and fuel rails and retaining clips. Mark the point where the O-rings seal. Give some extra tolerance, and go from there.

Huh, that is interesting to see. I know how I am about stuff like that. I'd be wondering the same thing you are, if it's possible to grind them down some. Since you have both intakes sitting there, maybe you can answer another thing I was wondering the other day. Are the round ports where the runners mate up to the intake the same diameter on the Edelbrock and the SDPC intake?

actually, the sdpc runner intake holes were a little over 1/16th bigger then the edlebrock ports in the begining, but now ive made them even larger.

thanks so far
