Cleaning Plenum...
I got my plenum ported and polished, but it's filthy inside...
Concerning cleaning it... I know that Eagle One Etching Mag Cleaner would probably clean i really good... should I use it? I've heard that the insides of some intakes have a coating that if removed / damaged could hurt it...

If it were me I would try some Seafoam Deep Creep spray. It should be about $6 from Autozone or Pep Boys.

Re: Cleaning Plenum...
Mine is dirty too, dark black soot i guess. Its hard to get off. I used a rag wrapped around a screwdriver with various sprays like brake cleaner, carb cleaner, etc. and scrubbed around. Its still dirty, but is that really bad?
what i would be more concerned about, is why is it dirty? is something unusual or is the soot crap normal for whatever reason?

Re: Cleaning Plenum...
the sludge is completely normal. most of it comes from crankcase vapors being pulled in to the plenum. some comes from the EGR system. all port injected motors do it.
if you have access to a 5 gallon bucket of carb cleaner, the type that is used when doing a carb over haul, you can soak the intake in it & then wash it out with water. having it hot tanked also works. if you can't soak it or have it tanked, the car wash will remove most of the sludge.
you can cut down on the sludge build up by placing inline fuel filters in both the PCV hose & the breather hose. if you do this, expect to have to change the filters, a lot. they will get clogged up in about 2000~5000 miles depending on the condition of your motor.
