egr issue?

egr issue?
i got a 89 t/a with a caprice cop car motor w/ better cam rest of car is stock since the engine replacement and rebuild i keep getting code 32 do i need this egr? or can i just go custom ecm and change the ecm protocols for the egr? if it will effect gas mileage greatly i will try to keep the system i dont know if its beacause the ecm on the car currently is running ( is thinking its a regular chevy 350 for a trans am not the caprice 350?)
