With the timing wire unplugged and engine>
at idle, why does my XP240 scanner indicate timing is at 31* when the static timing on my timing light is set at 12* advanced???????
I would figure that I should get 12* on the scanner! I must be wrong. Can anyone explain whats going on????
BTW: The ZZ9 cam and AFR 190 heads seem to pull very strong during WOT runs on the xway up to 90mph when I must back off. I got to get to the dragstrip soon.
TIA

your scanner is probably telling you that is where it is trying to put the timing but in reality it cannot because the bypass connector is unplugged.

LOW performance people should drive low performance vehicles!

I think JP 84 nailed it on that question....I wouldnt worry abotu what the scanner is saying, and go with the timing light.
When I built my 383, 12 degrees was too much base timing for the stroked L98 I had... I had much better results running 8 degrees. HMMI think I will make a post asking what everyone runs..............
