I swear I could not find a decent thread on this. I have the later throttle cable, with the silver barrel thingy. For the life of me I can't figure out how to install it. I couldn't find any pics in any of my manuals. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

 

What manuals do you have? My Helm's has pics.
If your old one is still in you could attach the old one to the new one and pull it through.
Apparently routing is important. There's even a dedicated picture as to it's routing. I found mine was wrong and couldn't get the TV to adjust. I fixed the routing and now it adjusts. Important? I guess so.
I'd scan the pic for you but my scanner doesn't seem to be working. Basically though it goes from the tranny, around the trans dipstick tube, behind the distributor, then underneath the plenum to the plenum bracket.

When you pull it out of the tranny you'll see a metal tang inside. Unhook it from your old cable and hook it to your new one. Don't worry, it won't fall into the tranny if you let it go.
At the plenum side, just run it into the bracket and follow the TV adjustment procedures which are all over this forum.

 

That was good info, but I need to know how to route the throttle cable, not the tranny cable. Actually, I wish I had read your post earlier because I had trouble with the tranny cable, too!

I have the throttle cable hooked to the accel pedal and routed under the plenum, but I can't see how I'm supposed to hook it to the throttle body.

 

91 may be different than 87 but throttle cable should
not route under the intake.
Should come out near the brake booster and curve
over the valve cover and into the Throttle-TV and
cruise control bracket.

Mine has a little pad on the firewall next to the booster
and looks like a 10 minute job to replace.

Oops. I just re-did my tv cable the other day so it was still on my mind.
jaykar has it right. Doesn't look like much of a job.

 

I have an 87 305 tuned port injection w/5spd. I think I need a throttle cable. It seems to stick when ideling or driving at speed. I have to tap it very lightly to get it to idel down. Also feels a little tough to push the gas sometimes. Where can I get a new stock replacement throttle cable is my point.
