New Inj. spark plugs and oxygen sensor/ wont idle right now?
Its an 88 formula 305 T.P.I 5speed. Ok i put in new injectors cause three of em were leaking. So after looking up on here on wich ones to get i decided on fords 19/lb inj set due to realiability or so they said? Cause my car is all stock with a rebuilt engine 10k on it. Ive replaced the fuel pump, dist and coil among other things. Anyway my car would hunt for an idle from 600 to 800 and when you start it, it would jump to 2000 and then almost die out then jump back up again. Sometimes it would throw smoke but again the heads were redone with the engine rebuild so it couldn't be my seals. So i also noted i was getting around 14mpg on the freeway doing 65
. So ok i did a fuel pressure test before throwing parts at it and got a reading at 45 but then it would bleed out to around the low30s mid 20s within two min so i took the rail off and found three leaky inj. so i ordered the ford inj from summit bought new spark plugs champions and a new bosh oem oxygen sensor. when i put the new inj i noticed the pressure would bleed really fast like as soon as the fuel pump stoped priming it would bleed right away. so i pinched the return fuel line and tryed it again i heard a click sound and ever since then its been holding good pressure at 45. so along with the uncomfterbel feeling of installing ford injectors in a gm i put everything back together. I also put on the ground strap for the coil never had one before so thought it would help. wrong i tried to fire it up and it died out wouldn't even start so after an hour of tinkering decided to take that strap off and what do ya know it started up? Go figure. But it sounded like **** like i had a really rough cam in it. after tightening my exaust y pipe and tuning the tps and iac. i got it to sound better and feel a little better but its still rough my timing is dead on. Also when i take that plug off to time it i get backfiring in my intake. like when i was first starting it up. Ive checked all my hoses every connection still nothing. I am getting spark cause i tried to disconect my wires one at a time to see if there was a diffrence, well lets just say my finger tip was hurting for a little while. With the plug five inches away from the dis the spark flew up and taged my finger tip trying to get to the wire
. Anyway i checked for codes all i got was 42 (EST) but could that of been due to checking my timing? I also noticed when i had it on for two minutes or less to do my tuning my eyes got really watery from the exaust am i still running rich? So what do you guys think im going crazy trying to fix it and i dont wanna throw new parts at it trying to figure it out. Do i need an afpr maybe im flooding it with the new inj im at 45 w/o vaccume engine off and around 45 41 at idle with vaccum hooked up. Do i need a new egr i wouldnt think so since it seems more spark related? Should i advance my timing? I didnt want to, do to this is an all stock car and wanted to get better mpg. Since its stock inj rating i thought it would of improved everything
.all my hoses are hooked up i checked a million times hoping it was just that. no exaust leaks. timing is set to 6degres. But please let me know your thoughts I know its gonna be something small and dumb like always but point me where to look. Thanks in advance cause i cant afford a mechanic right now.

Re: New Inj. spark plugs and oxygen sensor/ wont idle right now?
Hey guys well im still troubleshooting this. I know im not gonna get any sleep till its fixed. Anyway I pulled the spark plugs off and the first one had a white tip with brown heat marks on the white part of it. wich seems ok but then i pulled three more spark plugs and they are black as can be one has dry black soot all around the others are close to it also they had some liquid stuff on the round tip most likely unburnt gas even though i cant smell gas. Now could the soot be from my earlyer starts? What could cause this? bad wires? Or are my brand new out of the box injectors bad? also my fuel pressure is bleeding down noticably as well after i turned the car off? im gonna clean the spark plugs off and start it up again and see what happens also since this is getting to me im gonna go ahead and reinstall the old injectors and see what happens just to ruel out the injectors and foucs on my igniton. Ill keep you posted and any thoughts are greatly appreciated thanks...

Ive heard the bosch o2 sensors have a different switching point then the AC Delco units, just a thought.

Hey thanks for the reply I was reading up on that o2 before on here too. But then i read that some one opened his ac delco unit up and it was a bosch unit inside weather its true or not i dont know. But anyway i couldnt find the acdelco one at any auto parts stores website so thats why i just got that one.
But i went ahead and replaced the the injectors with my old ones and it starts right up and runs like before. So now my question since we ruled out ignition, Should i have those ford injectors set at a certain pressure so they can function right? Most likely there just D.O.A? Or did I have to advance my timing?

Re: New Inj. spark plugs and oxygen sensor/ wont idle right now?
well decided to take off my dis cap to see if anything was wrong. Because the car didnt have any power, it would barley move with the old injectors on. So i was thinking maybe when i grounded the coil i shorted something remember it wouldnt start till i ungrounded it? Well I took the control module to test at autozone and it failed the third time he tested it. I also got a new cap and rotor casue there was arcing on the cap like a lot of build up. Put it all together and it runs just like it did before i did the injector swap yay! But anyway im sending the injectors back to get a diffrent set ill keep you guys posted.
