Fuel Filter

I just swapped out my crossfire injection for TPI from an '85. Does anyone see a problem with running the old fuel filter from the CFI setup on the TPI? I know the TPI is a higher pressure system, but should the CFI filter be able to keep up? The reason I am asking is because my my fuel rail is excessively noisy. It sounds like someone is spraying fluid into an empty coffee can when the pump primes before starting. I am also running a Walbro 255lph pump in the tank. Thoughts anyone?

Re: Fuel Filter

I presume you've installed a higher pressure (TPI) pump, correct?

The spraying you hear may be the cold start injector. It should only spray once depending upon coolant temperature and the elapsed time since the last start attempt.

Re: Fuel Filter

Yes i have a walbro 255lph pump installed. The cold start valve is not spraying, this is another issue i am trying to resolve. It will spray if connected directly to the battery so i think the valve is okay, i just need to check the wiring. I connected a noid light to the cold start valve connector and it lights up, but very dim.

Re: Fuel Filter

The CFI fuel filter is a different part than the TPI. The CFI has a rubber line connected to one end and metal line on the other and it is located on the block where a mechanical fuel pump is on a carbed engine. The TPI is inline under the car somewhere, has metal pipe coming in and going out and is larger in diameter than the CFI.

Re: Fuel Filter

Okay im starting to think it's my fpr. when the pump primes for 2 sec the pressure jumps to almost 50psi, then when it stops it falls immediately to 45-47 psi. then after 5 min its at 40psi, 10min at 30psi and so on. im going to check it as the night goes and see how low it drops. as i understand, this may also be a leaking injector/s. what is a good indication that the fpr is bad? there is no fuel in the vacuum port.

Re: Fuel Filter

My fuel pressure drops to just below 10psi after an hour & 1/2, the injectors are not leaking and the pump is a new walbro 255lph. there is no fuel in the vacuum port of the regulator but is it still possible the regulator internals are bad?
