Heads for 305 TPI

what heads should I use on my 305 TPI? I'd like to get 300 HP out of it. Car Craft got 325 HP out of a 305 with Vortec heads. That motor used a carb. They also had to mill the heads. Is there a head that will bolt on to a 305 TPI with no mods to help me reach my goal?

I believe world products makes a head for the 305 that will just bolt on and give the performace that you are looking for. Check Summit racing catalog I have seen them listed. The 1986 thru 1991 Corvette alum heads will also bolt on and perform well on a 305. These heads have 1.94, 1.5 valves and 58cc combustion chambers to keep your compression up at 9.5 to 1.

IF YOU MAOTOR WAS AN 86 OR PRIOR the S/R TORQUER 305 heads will work the best, next to the VORTEC heads. they are both 1.5 / 1.94.
in the same article the magazine used the S/R torquer heads and got, i think 297 hp.

BUT I DON'T THINK THEY MAKE THEM FOR 87 AND LATER MOTORS

in order to use the VORTEC heads you will need a VORTEC TPI BASE that will be avalable through SDPC SOON

Thanks for the info. The TPI base for the Vortec heads sounds very interesting. i have an '89 motor, but all i would have to do to use the s/r torquer's is change the valve covers right? I want to avoid milling the heads. also, i love that et bjankuski.

Don't the trick flow heads work well on the 305, I may be wrong, but I think I heard they were pretty good.

The original G1 TFS Twisted Wedge heads work great. Unfortunately, the later G2's aren't supposed to. I put 50k miles on a TPI 305 with cam and the G1 heads...sweet combo.

importsdread, the bolt pattern changed on the heads after 86 so the S/R heads would not work unless you got a pair for '87 and later, which im not sure if they make

The intake on your 89 can be modified to work on the pre87 style heads with some machining or careful drilling of the center 4 bolt holes in the intake manifold. Might want to see if they offer those heads with the later pattern, Im not sure.
The vette heads also have the early pattern so your intake would need to be modified going that route as well. And theres no EGR passage, so if you have to retain your EGR then you will need a different manifold and an exhaust supply from the exh. manifold or headers as the case may be.

If you go to Hotrodmotor.com I'm sure you will find the best deal on the 87 and later S/R torquer heads around 475 unassembled, around 650 assembled
