fuel pressure low and erratic

Hey kevin you out there?

Anyone who can offer up advise it would be appreciated.

I cant get my fuel pressure above 30 psi with engine running or not.

when running it is erratic from 30 down to zero.

any suggestions before I go and arbitrarily by a new fuel pressure regulator to replace the one I have with only 20 minuets running time on it? Last year when I first ran the engine I was getting up to 60 psi depending on my setting.

did spring take a serious set? it is an adjustable regulator from street and performance.

thx

jeff

Re: fuel pressure low and erratic

I would look into the power going to your pump first.
Also you could check the pump by doing the following:

Attach fuel pressure tester to the schrader
Connect constant 12v to the fuel pump test port
Start pinching the fuel return line and watch the tester
While pinching harder/softer you should see the pressure rise/fall depending on your pinching action.
IF you can get upwards of 60 psi on the tester then you know the pump is good and the regulator is faulty.

Re: fuel pressure low and erratic

Pretty much what he said.

Its in likelihood about 99% fuel pump.

If the regulator failed to that point it would be pouring into the engine(thru vacuum line) and more than likely making your fuel pressure go sky high due to pressure on the wrong side of the diaphragm.

Double check fuel pump relay, fuel pump voltage at the pump, then more then likely replace the pump.
