Problem starting Need Help

I have an 89 GTA and for about a month now the car will crank and crank and will not start except on the rare occasion, it will start however if you spray some starter fluid in it and runs fine or did run fine... until today.
I have yet to find the problem. But today i was taking a 100 mile trip and the car would drive and then slowly die, i would give it gas to try to keep it running while it was dying but no matter how hard i hit the pedal the rpms would slowly wind down, then i would spray the starter fluid and it would run then die again. I did manage get it home under its own power, it seems that if i kept the gas constant it wouldnt die but anytime i gave it more than 2500 rpms it would slowly start to die.
Some people say it might be fuel related but im leaning toward electical because up until today it would run fine with a little spray. with this incident i am forced to deal with it now. Any advice you can give me would be much appriciated.

Could be that or your injector/s could be dying. Fuel filter costs a few bucks but ohming your injectors is free.
