Re: Experience and/or thoughts concerning TPIS/AFR L98 Heads

I have the AFR's. Can't really tell you too much at this point since I haven't driven the car yet but they shore are purty.
That aside, both of my AFR's weigh in at just 3 pounds more that just 1 of my stockers. All fully assembled.

Are those just the regular AFR's or the TPIS/AFR's? There is a difference.

I can't speak specifically about those heads, but I'm leary of anything from TPIS. They do sell quality, but a lot of times it's someone elses rebadged stuff, or just plain overpriced.

That being said, I'm sure they're GREAT heads.

Re: Experience and/or thoughts concerning TPIS/AFR L98 Heads

I can get a set for just under $1800 shipped from a guy on the East Coast who bought them for his Corvette but wrecked the car before he got a chance to install them.

So it sounds like noone has experience with this exact set of heads, is this the case?

No I don't have experience with those heads either. I agree with everyone else as far as to go witha good set of AFR or Canfield heads for the money. You can't beeat their flow numbers and for under 1500 you will never be happier.

Not to totally bash TPIS but their clims for those heads are contrary to popular believe that those heads are worth spending money on due to flow reasons. There is not huge amounts of port room even on the aluminum corvette heads let alone the crappy cast iron heads. The stock intake runner cc's on the vette heads was 163 if I rememeber correctly. They had to do lots of port work to try to open them up and they have an inferrior combustion chamber design. The money would be better spent on a set of other heads.

Re: Experience and/or thoughts concerning TPIS/AFR L98 Heads

He said they were AFR heads that TPIS ported.
They probably flow fine, knowing TPIS but I surely wouldnt pay any premium for it. Do you know if they are the new Eliminator design or not? Might make more sense to put that $1800 towards the new AFR design.

Yeah if they already got the crazy AFR port job to them ...what can TPiS offer in respects to gains .... doubt it's worth it at all

Re: Experience and/or thoughts concerning TPIS/AFR L98 Heads

Okay, so I found out definitively that the TPiS customized AFR 180cc heads do not flow as well as AFR's Competition Package 180cc heads. So to put an end to this post, these heads ARE NOT worth the money! Even if you can get them for $1800, they do not compare to the AFR C/P 180cc heads, which are cheaper too by the way!

No one has experience because no one wants to pay that kind of money for heads you can buy elseware. As said earlier.....mostly just rebadged stuff.
