Cooling hose question

http://speeddevil.50megs.com/index.html

In the picture on this page I just threw up on the net real quick, the red and blue arrow point to cooling hose hookups for what the hayes manual describes as cooling hookups for the TBI unit. How do you know if your engine is equiped with TPI or TBI and what is the difference? The hayes manual seems to step all over this section and does not clearly define either that I can see. My car has been running with both of these not hooked up. Is this a problem I should correct, or has the previous owner done this for a logical reason. There were many modifications made and I'm still trying to figure out what they all were...

Thanks in advance guys!

that pic is showing where to disconnect the coolant lines to do the throttle body coolant bypass mod. if your engine looks like that pic you have tpi. you may have misread the haynes manual. it probably said hookups for the TB unit (throttle body unit). leave this mod the way it is unless you live in alaska. read this link...

You have TPI (Tuned port injection). The throttle body coolant passages are mainly for cold climates where there may be the possibility of icing on or around the throttle blades. Your Throttle body has apparently been by-passed which is not in and of itself a bad thing even if you do live in a cold climate, I would not worry too much about it unless it gives you trouble this winter. By-passing the throttle body keeps the incomming air charge much denser for more power.
