Need AFPR Help
Need AFPR Help
I did a search and have found that others have had this problem. What is the deal? I pulled the top off the stock regulator (working fine - nearly new diaphram), left the diaphram in the "base", put on the Accel AFPR top,, and now my fuel pressure stays the same whether vacuum is hooked up or not. UGGGHHH. What could be the problem? I mean I've worked on cars enough and I followed the instructions,,, I mean come on this is not a hard mod to do!!! I took my time,, it should work right - - -UGGHHHH!!!!
Replace the internal pieces of your STOCk regulator (spring and orange gasket type thing). That has solved the problem on mine and many others. I gurantee that is what is wrong.
DO NOT GET IT FROM THE DEALER. THey will charge you $95. Go to parts america or advanced auto. I got mine for $29. Its listed under MPFI not TPI.
Good luck.

Well Rock,,, I think I know what the problem is. A month or so ago,, I was having the same problem (probably me you mentioned). The AFPR kept the same psi whether the vacuum was hooked up or not. I bought the car with a Crane AFPR the guy said would not change pressure, I replaced it with an Accel unit and figured something was wrong with the base portion of the regulator since 2 AFPR were doing the same thing. I bought a complete regulator assembly from GM, installed it,, and presto - the pressure dropped to 34psi with vacuum from about 41 with out. Tonight I figured I'd put the Accel top on so I could adjust the fuel pressure. Well,, still no drop when vacuum line is applied.
Long story short - Accel had put a plastic "plug" inside the vacuum nipple. The mother ruckers cost me over $100!! Unscrew the nipple and check to see if your's is "plugged" as well. I pushed it out with a small allen wrench,, and I'm FINALLY good to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
