car wont stay/// search aint helpin

Well my car was running fine one week ago. Then hell broke loose for me and my baby. My car's battery died over night which i soon found out the alternator was shot. Now when i installed the new alternator and hooked everthing back up, i tried to start the car, and it wouldnt turn over really. I soon decided to give it a little bit of gas as i tried to start it. This turned the car on but once i let off the pedal it stalled out. Also when i was revving it up, i was burning some oil. While looking into the matter of the car not staying on. i saw that i had my front right injector leaking from the ring seals. It seems pretty bad too. if there is anything else i left out that may help you let me know. This is my first car and i only bought it about a month ago. The stuff done to my car is in my sig also. some1 plz help me

The engine is only running if you hold the throttle open and will not idle on it's own correct.

If so the IAC is not openening. Usually you can go through a couple key cycles and the ECM will eventually set the IAC at the proper start position.

If that doesn't happen usually on the next start your IAC may be bad. I have replaced many IACs because they would close just fine but wouldn't open. The one on my TPI did this just a few weeks ago with a year old IAC.

Yeah... I'd start there.

But if you have a leaky injector - you might be flooding the engine too when it sits. But from the sound - it's leaking out from the top? Or you mean just a hole letting air get in there?

The 'oil' burning, may well have just been an excess of fuel too. Unless you know it was clearly oil.

I think I'd go cheap - clean that IAC real good and then take a look at that injector. If you are leaking fuel into the engine - do yourself a big favor and get that problem fixed ASAP, before it turns into a REAL issue..

Really - I guess, it's a one at a time issue. I mean, cleaning the IAC is cheap and easy, injectors can be a bit more pricey, but pretty necessary.. Don't try to concentrate on everything at once - at least my one-track mind will get confused too quickly, lol

Well im not sure bout the smoke but the injector leaks and makes a little puddle on teh intake. Yesterday i tried to start it multiple times and nothin but onl when i hit the gas. Well now i can try to fix the seals on the injectors to see if it solves the leaking? if that doesnt work then its the IAC? If so, is this somethin i can do myself?

Also, how do i thoroughly clean the IAC? What do you mean when it leaks if it is sitting?

Leaking when it's sitting would mean a bad injector. In other words, it's gone bad internally, causing fuel to leak into the intake manifold and down into the cylinder. If you have a puddle of fuel on the manifold, chances are you've got a bad o-ring seal at the top or bottom of the injector. There's writeups in the tech articles section of this site on how to clean and reset the IAC. You can also search through the posts here on the tpi forum. There's been a lot of posts regarding how to clean the IAC. It could also be hard to start because of the leaky injector. This can cause the fuel pressure to be too low, which would make it hard to start. Of course, if your IAC isn't opening enough, this could also make it hard to start due to lack of air, and when you open the throttle blades by stepping on the gas, this is giving the motor enough air to start or stay running.

Your injector leak onto the manifold may be o-rings or the injector. GM used some pretty bad injectors here and there. I don't know what ones you have on yours but.. I have replaced many injectors on 3.8s for external leaks. The lower pintle piece is slid into the injector and crimped into place. Often that crimp comes loose and fuel will leak from there. I saved an example to show people cause they never believe it happens.

Well they are stock injectors. Would it be wise for me to buy a new injector while I have the whole intake torn apart?
