Base timing, Should it change when your rev up the engine?

I was setting my base timing and decided to rev up the engine while Was setting it and the base timing changed. Yes the esc was unhooked. I run 8deg base and when I revved it up to about 2000 the timing jumped to about 15. Is this common? Or is my distributer worn out. I know they are not suppossed to have any kind of mechanical advance. Has anyone else tried this?

They have a small mechanical advance in 'em, it's normal.

Its not mechanical advance, its just programmed into the module. Its like a "failsafe". If for some reason the ECM can no longer control timing, the module will resort to base timing, BUT when RPMs exceed a certain amount (it may be 2000) it will advance some so the car is still somewhat driveable.
