Is this a timing issue?

Hi this is my first post here but i've read alot of good info on the forums.. Anyways the problem i'm having is the exhaust smells like gas really bad i have even been in a drive thru and they thought i had a gas leak which i don't.. From what i have searched and read on the site would adjusting my timing fix this problem and possibly make the car run better in doing so?

Re: Is this a timing issue?

i will assuringly say no.
there are a lot of things on third gens that will cause our motors to run rich, youll just have to go through a bunch of things and make sure they are working properly, ie: o2 sensor

worst case scenario, your car isnt going into closed loop and runs extremely rich all the time.

Re: Is this a timing issue?

i have my primary fan hooked up to the ignition because it never would come on and the car would just get hot think maybe if its not letting it get hot enough it won't go into closed loop?

yes that is possible, but what temperature does your motor stay at? i believe closed loop on a stock tpi was over 200*

Re: Is this a timing issue?

yeah i hardly ever see it get up to 200 anymore since i wired the fan like that.. it does seem like it studers when i'm just going one constant speed but it stops when i open it up. I've put injector cleaner in it but it hasn't fixed anything i replaced all the ignition parts just the other day.
