Siameseing and polishing SLP runners.. TIPS NEEDED
hello
i bought a set of slps for my car. I used a carbide cutting bit to siamese them all of the way through, then i started using flapper wheels to smooth out the inside. However i cant reach the middle with these flapper wheels. i think i need to find some kind of flexi shaft for my die grinder. I am also polishing these runners, but i am having a hell of a time, i polished my plenum already, that was easy, is there any tricks to sanding and then polishing the slps? thanks

to get further inside, i'd try using this flex shaft grinder from harbor freight. i have one and i love the thing. i've never tried to get inside the runners with it but, i think it might be what you're looking for. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40432
as far as polishing goes, check out this buffing how-to by caswell plating. http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/buffman.htm they also have some very good buffing products. they also have a metal polishing forum which you can browse and answer alot of questions. http://forum.caswellplating.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7
i also did a how-to on polishing a nissan valve cover for a nissan forum that i go to. http://www.nissancustoms.com/viewtopic.php?t=2431 here's some of my work http://www.undefinedcustoms.com/kelyn/polishing.html
i'd start with grinding any seams or ridges with a small sanding drum. then i'd go with a 8" spiral sewn buffing wheel on a bench grinder with greaseless compound. you apply greaseless compound to the buffing wheel and allow to dry and it hardens to the point that it will throw sparks off of steel. it works well on cast aluminum to smooth the texture without fear of gouging the metal. you would likely have to use some smaller wheels on the flexshaft to get in the tight areas with greaseless. then ah hell, it's all in the how-to lol
if you want to, send them my way, i'll polish them up.
