My 85 tpi z28 hasnt been starting lately, and when it does start it doesnt want to rev. Theres also a loud pop that sounds like its coming from the intake. Im totally baffled, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Sounds to me like your timing chain has jumped a tooth. Either that, or your distributor hold down clamp might've come loose. Check to see if your distributor is loose first. From what you described, it sounds like your engine is way out of time either at the distributor or the camshaft. Hopefully it's your distributor because replacing the timing chain is a much bigger PITA than retiming and retightening your distributor!

If your car is in good tune or has been recently tuned and you are not getting any SES codes, I too would say the timing chain.

I've a few go on me in my time, and IF they would start, the way you describe it is exactly what they sounded like.

BUT, make sure you've checked EVERYTHING first. I generally go for the timing chain when everything else checks out fine and the only thing left is the timing chain.

Make sure you don't have a restricted exhaust..plugged cat, rotted muffler, crushed pipe...
