How many people know for sure how much power they really have?

I want to see want is possible out of a fuel injected setup only. Express all your mods and your dyno horsepower numbers or e.t.

Here's my goal that I hope is attainable and thats why I'm asking.

I always wanted a reliable street machine that would pound everyone on the street well you know everyone who drives their car to work and be very respectable at the track.

My goal is 500h.p and over 500lbs. of torque.
All naturally aspirated. This is flywheel dyno power not Rear wheel horsepower just in case you're wondering.

The dream of mines is to have a 383 Mini-ram Stroker producing the above mention power naturally aspirated through a full exhaust and with all the emission devices attached.

I already have DFI in my car and an expert tuner to tame any combo so thats not much of a concern. My concern is making the power level without sacrificing too much in driveability and reliability. So here's a formula I think could work or if not change this recipe to something proven. Here we go:

383 stroker sbc preferably one piece seal
short block assembly stout enough to spin to 6000 Rpm's if needed. Also the compression ratio I hope to keep between 9.5 to 10.0 just to make it a friendlier street car.

AFR 195 cc fully compettion ported heads with CC to match desired compression with pistons. Heat riser/to attempt to keep it legal at least and hook up all the smog device even if not funtional.

A 383 with flywheel horsepower will be difficult but can be done. That equates to about 400-425 RWHP. I know guys with 350s making close to 400rwhp NA so 425 with a 383 can definitely be done.

Your plan starts off really well. AFR195 heads with a MiniRam is definitely the ticket for 500 flywheel horsepower. However, you will definitely have to spin that engine close to 6500rpms in order to do it. Forget about the heat riser ... the MiniRam doesn't have EGR capability so the heat riser is useless. I would recommend the following ....

MiniRam for 195 heads
AFR195s with Titanium retainers and 7/16 studs
CC306 cam
CC 'R' series lifters and good chromoly pushrods
AFR HydraRev kit
10.5:1 Compression
Hooker Long Tubes
30lb/hr injectors
58mm TB

Make sure you select a drivetrain that is appropriate. That means 3.73's and a good converter (Yank, PI) with around 3000-3600 stall.

That will give you the 425 rwhp. As far as the torque is concerned. Don't worry about it. Just dump a high stall PI Vigilante in the car and you'll be fine.

Traxion. Thats one strong running Iroc! I wonder how that setup would work with a Super Ram. I am only asking because I am doing a similar combo, but mine is a 383. I hope the car runs as quick as yours I only hope that I can figure out my Haltech DFI to be able to tune it right I am just so annoyed at reading all the mods that people have done to their F-body's and they are still only running 13's at best. I cant understand why they dont run like they should. I mean look at project formula in GMHTP Those times are not to great for that combo he has. I know he has the long tube runner setup, but still it should be way faster for his mods. My GTA used to run 13.80's and I did not even have heads, cam, or an intake change at that point. Just seems wierd that you can do heads, cam and your usual boltons and still run 13's...

I seen it almost done and the guy kept the tpi this is every thing I know he had:
400 sbc stroked to 434 or 432
I think he used a tpis ZZ-9X ccam and crane roller lifters
I dont know what brand piston he had but I do know the compresson was high at least 11.1
every thing was balencd and he used a fluid dampner .
His heads where GM fast burn that had the exost port and cc polished and some mild port work done just to know casting inperfections down and he had the steam holes drilled
he had 1.6 roller rockers
he used an edelbrock base that was modified to use with the heads slp runners and jet afpr and 30lb injectors 58mm Tb and a custom chip .All that motor and geuss what its in an S10. the engine origanly had a edlbroc intake and a holy 750 on it with a crane cam he just whanted to try somthing difrent. So I got him a TPI out of a ta and he bought the cam used from some one .I was going to build anotherone for a d50 mud truck but the guy backed out the only difrence would have ben that he was going to use vortec heads instead of the fast burn heads but he decided not to. If I can get up with him I will get a before dyno and after tpi dyno results from him.I belive he had more then 490 horses but just under 500 it probly could have gotten 500 esy with a mini ram and alittle more adjusting.

BLOWN GTA - The ”premier issue” of High-Tech Performance (Dec 1995) has a 10:1 – 406 with ported Phase VI Bowtie heads and a 232 @ .050 that dynoed 525 horses @ 5700 rpm with a mini-ram (MAF used) and may be a guide for what you're looking for. This is a good issue to have,, if you don’t already.

NOSFED GTA - This issue also has a “Lingenfelter prepared” 11:1 406 (ported Vette heads) with a super ram and DFI engine management in a 3rd gen that ran a 11.78 / 115.65 in “bad air” - it supposedly ran 11.50's in "good air".

------------------
86 IROC - 9.8:1 - 355, TFS twisted wedge heads, 218/228-110, fully ported GM base and plenum, SLP runners, 52mm BBK, 24# SVO, 1 5/8" Headman headers, 2.5" Dynomax, TH350, 2200 stall, B&M Megashifter, 3.23 peg leg, 245/45ZR17s on 212 Eagles
Best run - 12.53/112.4 on 26x11.5 ET Streets.
