I believe, 215hp/275 torque, and low/mid 15s @ around 87-90MPH in the 1/4 mile.

It should have 215 hp (210 on the birds and TA's) and 275 torque. The 1/4 mile times were high 14's. I have seen as fast a 14.7@95 but most were like 14.9 or so.

gutted MAF,
K&N filters,
Corvette Servo.
14.9@93mph

The brochure said the 85' T/A's were 205hp, 275lb-ft torque. Quarter mile in 15.1. The Camaros were 215hp, and 285lb-ft torque, I don't know the acceleration ratings on those.

89 Transam GTA, a few bolt ons

205??? I knew it was slightly less than the camaro due to its more restrictive airbox for some reason I only thought it was 5hp.

Here in the rear world, a 15 year old TPI Trans Am runs low to mid 15s, like I said. There isn't enough HP in that motor (stock) to a turn a 95MPH trap speed... simply not happening.

The yellow paint is worth at LEAST a quarter-second E/T, IMHO!

Good score

Was that with the mods Nolan? Or bone stock?

My sad excuse for a motor pulled a 15.3 @ 87mph out of its fanny for me.

Stupid reman engine with its ****-poor cam, and stupid swirl port heads make for stupidly slow GTA.

But I have the remedy for all of that in my garage. Going for mid 13's or better.

Is this car a 5-speed or auto? G92 or no? Which rear end? My car with free mods runs mid 14's with me driving the wee out of it, and its a 5-speed g92 with a 3.42 borg/warner 9-bolt rear.

the 85 tpi 305's were the best you could get. they had the 350 cam. ive heard they run very low 15's stock with a good driver. i havent had mine ot the strip yet. its at the paint shop right now. im hopping for maybe between a 14.6 and a 14.9 with mine.

i ran the 15.25 with all the mods, but i screwed up when i did it. I shifted the car manually , to about 6000 rpms , which is too high, next time i go back ill let the car do the shifting , so maybe a 15.10 or lower. I dont know.

Actually, while the 85 305TPI' auto's were good they were not the best 305 combo the F-bodies rolled out with. The best 305's you could get were 89+ 305TPI/T5 combo's. 89's had the highest lift and duration cam of all the years, but had a 117LSA. Speed Density years had a little less lift, and less duration, but had a 114LSA. A 5spd 305TPI SD car with dual cats and the G92 could probably run a high 14 pretty easy.

All of the cam information is on this site.

The older guy who does my body/paint work said that the 85 camaro was the best one of the thirdgen too......he couldn't explain why though. He did own one though, along with several other nice muscle/pony cars.
Was there anything else different about the 85 TPI 305 motor?

Full exhaust from headers to tailpipe. Heads and cam would be really good also but it also costs more.
